How would a Land Tax impact the NT?
The state of the economy has been high on the agenda this week on 360.
Katie Woolf this morning revealed there are 683 vacant commercial properties listed for lease in the Northern Territory at the moment. They range from retail shop spaces to offices and warehouses.
Despite this it is being reported that the Northern Territory Government is considering introducing a land tax to replace the scrapping or reduction of stamp duty.
Leader of Opposition Gary Higgins said " I think its highly inappropriate...the issue with land tax stops investment."
Ruth Palmer the Executive Director of Property Council for the NT said a land tax wont help investment in the NT.
" We believe it will make investment here undesirable," she said.
With so many vacant properties across the NT, is NOW the best time for the government to look at introducing a land tax?
