The man who allegedly stabbed an elderly resident and stole his car in Darwin’s northern suburbs has been arrested.
Police responded to calls from a 61-year-old man who had been stabbed in the neck with a shovel by an intruder in his Tiwi home on May 9.
It’s alleged the offender, a 31-year-old man, then stole the mans car, before abandoning it in Wanguri.
Serious Crime, General Duties, and Strike Force Trident members had been actively looking for the offender since the alleged aggravated robbery, to which they then received reports of the man allegedly ransacking businesses in Pinelands on Thursday night.
The man was then seen driving a red Commodore sedan dangerously throughout the northern suburbs before rear-ending another car on McMillian’s Road just before 3am Friday.
Police say the man fled the scene running into nearby bushland, where Patrol Dog Drax tracked the man down who was hiding in bushes near Robertson Barracks.
He is now in custody and is expected to be charged in relation to the alleged aggravated robbery which led the 61-year-old man who was stabbed to be treated in hospital.
The 25-year-old woman whose car was rear-ended was also taken to hospital but does not suffer from any injuries.
NT Police attribute the successful arrest to the dedication and hard work of their officers.
