Samara Laverty hopes Declan’s Law will prevent other lives from being lost
Samara Laverty hopes a string of reforms called Declan’s Law, developed after her son’s murder, will save people’s lives.
The legislative changes include a presumption against bail for serious violent offenders, mandatory electronic monitoring for repeat offenders and making breach of bail an offence.
Ms Laverty told Katie Woolf electronic monitoring will help ensure people are abiding by their bail conditions and could make them think twice about their behaviour.
She has also welcome wanding reforms that will make it easier for police to detect weapons and in more places.
