United Workers Union NT Secretary Erina Early responds to serious concerns in NT prisons after a whistleblower spoke out about a recent assault that saw a corrections officer coward punched and another soccer kicked in the head by three prisoners with no consequences for the assaults.

Ms Early told Katie Woolf members are fearing for their lives, concerned about work health and safety due to overcrowding and staffing shortages, which are going unaddressed.

She says the union met with the Corrections Commissioner this week to work through some of the issues and flagged announcements will soon be made around plans for an influx of prisoners.
