Youths who damaged new Holtze detention centre shared notes and tips, says Commissioner
NT Corrections Commissioner Matthew Varley says investigations are underway into the design of the new Holtze youth detention centre after six youths caused $200,000 damage to seven bedrooms in the same week it became operational.
He told Katie Woolf the detainees were sharing notes and tips on building vulnerabilities, and he has flagged changes to routine officer checks and the current practice of turning CCTV off at night.
Commissioner Varley also shed light on a string of assaults against youth justice officers in Alice Springs saying extra training and body worn cameras are being considered to keep staff safe.
