Chief Minister outlines CLP’s Correction’s plan, set to boost capacity to 3,000 adult beds by 2028
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says Don Dale Youth Detention Centre in Berrimah will be used to house 50 low-security adult male prisoners when the youth offenders move into the new Holtze facility.
She also told Katie Woolf the new youth detention centre in Alice Springs will be turned into a women’s prison with young offenders moved to Darwin temporarily while the old alcohol and drug centre is turned into a 16-bed boot camp and remand facility.
Ms Finocchiaro says high-risk youth offenders from Alice will remain at the new Youth Detention Centre in Darwin, which is expected to be operational in November.
