Authorities are calling on the public for information after a service station worker was assaulted in Katherine.

Five youths allegedly damaged the front doors of the Bicentennial Road service station on Sunday night (January 26), before stealing cigarettes and the cash register.

Employees secured themselves in a staff room while it unfolded with officers later establishing a crime scene.

In a separate incident yesterday morning (January 28) a group of kids allegedly threw rocks at the servo but fled when security intervened.

Police say they returned to the scene a short time later, striking a 72-year-old security guard in the head.

Strike Force Cerberus are investigating both incidents.

Senior Sergeant Warren Scott says, “This behaviour is unacceptable, and no one deserves to be assaulted while at work.

“We take this type of offending incredibly seriously and will work tirelessly to locate and prosecute the individuals responsible.”
