Four people have died in a head-on-collision near Yirrkala early this morning.
Police were alerted to a break-in at a home in Nhulunbuy with a grey Toyota Corolla reported stolen at 6.45am.
A short time later the car was seen being driven dangerously before colliding with a Toyota Prado on Gunyipinya Road.
Three occupants of the stolen vehicle and one from the Prado were declared dead at the scene.
Another occupant in the Prado suffered minor injuries.
A crime scene has been declared, with the Major Crash Unit travelling to the community to investigate.
The road is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.
Witnesses and anyone with information are urged to contact police on 131 444.
Lives lost on Territory Roads now stand at four for 2025.
