Katherine’s Aquatic Centre is set to close for an extended period of time as it undergoes major upgrades.
The 43-year-old facility has recently been struggling with maintenance issues, with workers only recently discovering a water pipe leak.
In a statement, Katherine Town Council says they understand the importance of the pool to the local community, and have attempted to keep the facility open as long as possible while waiting for federal funding.
However, following the recent discovery of more issues the council says the pool will now be closed.
“We have no choice but to start the pool’s closedown.”
The pool will officially close from this Friday afternoon (March 15).
More information and future plans is set to be released in the coming weeks.
