At about 3:50pm yesterday afternoon Northern Territory Police received a report of a single vehicle
crash on Matthews Road at Malak.
Police attended the scene a short time later and located a white Nissan Pulsar on its roof.
The vehicle had contained two occupants who were assisted out of the vehicle by other motorists.
The male driver was arrested at the scene after being examined by St John’s Ambulance and
returning a positive road side breath test of 0.292%.
The 56-year-old male driver was conveyed to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment and to provide
a blood test.
He will face the Darwin Local Court at a later date for drinking driving and other manner
of driving offences.
Initial Police investigations reveal that the involved vehicle veered to the left side of the road and
collided with the curb before mounting a pedestrian barrier causing the vehicle to flip and roll onto
its roof.
Luckily on this occasion no one received any serious injuries.
Given that the crash occurred in a school zone during a peak period the outcomes could have been far worse.
Northern Territory Police would like to remind all members of the public that if you are intending on
consuming alcohol to do so in a responsible manner and make appropriate travel arrangements to
avoid a completely preventable vehicle related incident.
