A man has been hit with an axe while trying to stop a service station robbery in Nightcliff overnight.
Police received reports of a man using a hammer to smash a window of the service station at 1.20am.
A 54-year-old man who was driving past stopped and tried to intervene but was confronted by another man armed with an axe.
He quickly retreated to his vehicle but the man allegedly smashed one of his car windows with the axe and hit him in the shoulder.
It’s further alleged the armed man then returned to the service station, caused more damage and stole several small items before fleeing the scene.
The 54-year-old was treated at Royal Darwin Hospital for his injuries.
Strike Force Trident Detectives later arrested the men aged 18 and 28, who are expected to be charged later today.
