A 13-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital in Darwin after being attacked by a crocodile in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
Police have revealed the teen was swimming with a group of youths around 5.30 on Monday afternoon (April 29) at Numbulwar, when he was grabbed by a 2 metre saltwater croc.
It’s understood the boy tried to grab mangroves and free himself as the croc dragged him further into the water but was unsuccessful.
A 16-year-old boy with him managed to wrestle the croc, freeing his mate and sending for help.
The 16-year-old also used his clothing to stop the bleeding from the victims wounds.
The 13-year-old was initially transported to a nearby medical clinic and stabilised, before being airlifted to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
