Thieves target dozens of Darwin businesses in early morning crime spree
NT Police are investigating whether eight break-ins across the northern suburbs overnight are linked.
Thieves targeted businesses in Coconut Grove, Winnellie, Malak, Moil, Casuarina and Millner in the space of just an hour and a half.
A vet surgery, two pool supply shops, a corner store, a church and Dripstone Middle School were among the businesses hit by vandals.
The first alarm was raised around 2.00am at Dripstone
A white Toyota Camry was reported by neighbours who witnessed the Moil shops being broken into.
Duty Superintendent Rob Burgoyne said a service station at Howard Springs was also robbed, but officers don't think it's related to the Darwin break-ins.
"Howard Springs did not avoid the troubles, with a service station being entered around 3.15am. A cigarette cupboard and cash draws were damaged, in attempts to get into them. It doesn't appear that they did so, but they might have left some blood behind. In this particular case, an old white utility was caught on CCTV parked outside, so we believe it's a difference vehicle than the one that was seen earlier", said Duty Superintendent Burgoyne.
