A resident named Liang in Guangzhou has become the talk of the town after refusing to leave her house, leading the Chinese government to construct a whole freeway bridge around it. Liang was asked to relocate so that developers could demolish her home, but she declined due to not being offered a suitable replacement in the desired location. Fearlessly, she chose to stay put, accepting the consequences with unwavering determination.

Captivating footage from Guangdong TV reveals Liang’s unique abode, known as a ‘nail house,’ which stands as a one-story structure on a 40-square-meter plot. Once blessed with stunning views, it now finds itself wedged between the lanes of the newly built freeway bridge.

Despite the unfavorable circumstances, Liang remains unperturbed, finding solace in her home’s tranquility. She recently remarked during an interview with MailOnline that, “Some may consider this environment undesirable, but for me, it’s quiet, liberating, pleasant, and comfortable.”

Back in 2010, authorities marked Liang’s property for demolition to make way for the grand Haizhuyong Bridge. After thorough safety assessments, engineers granted Liang permission to stay, initiating the construction of the bridge. Ten years later after the completion of the bridge, Liang’s house remained standing. It is reported that she rejected several offers for alternative housing and compensation, even demanding four apartments when the government only agreed to provide two.

Liang now stands as the lone survivor among the 47 households and seven businesses that once populated Huandao Road. While others relocated in 2019, she remains steadfast, with unwavering determination in the face of change. Government officials have assured ongoing communication with Liang to ensure her safety and well-being in her Guangzhou home.
