Runners in the Acorn Trails ‘Castlemilk 10K Race’ in Glasgow were left frustrated and exhausted after a rogue prankster pretending to be a race marshal misdirected them onto a longer, unintended route. The woman, whose identity remains unknown, reportedly removed official race signs and sent runners 2.5km off-course, throwing the entire event into confusion.

How It Happened

The disruption took place near the 9km mark of the trail race, a point where participants were already fatigued and relying on clear direction. Witnesses say the imposter, dressed like an official, confidently redirected about 30 of the 115 runners down the wrong path, away from the finish line. Some runners realised the mistake early, but many had to double back, adding unnecessary distance to their race.

Frustration and Fallout

Organisers were livid, calling the act “reckless” and “dangerous.” Participants who had trained for the event felt cheated, with one runner describing their emotions as a mix of “bitterness, anger, and disappointment.” Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported, but the prank led to a chaotic finish, with some runners arriving much later than expected.
